Nutrition unit
We have just completed our Tumbling unit in all grade levels. K-2 students are finishing up their striking skills(hitting something with something else that is not your body- such as batting). 3rd-5th grade students are completing their soccer unit. All of those assessments have been sent home. Our next unit of study will be nutrition. We will be learning about making healthy eating choices through discussions and games. I have posted on the side of this blog links for the nutrition assignment. If they lose their paper, you can print them at home.
I have started a beginner assignment for students in 1st and 2nd grade to work on with their parents. Eating habits are established by the time that a child is 6 years old, and it is easiest to influence them in a healthy way before the age of 12. That is why it is so important to educate and encourage our children to eat healthy now. Ask them about some of the games that we are playing to help learn nutriton facts. They may be able to teach you something new!
Eating more vegetables would be a great goal for all students and adults. When I visit the lunch room with 120+ students at a time, I walk the tables to check for vegetables. I see an average of 7-10 students who have a vegetable at lunch. With the hot lunch program, there are two choices of vegetables every day. Encourage your child to eat one every day!
